NFPA Launches Wind Turbine Technician Certification
Enhance your career in the wind energy industry with industry-first wind turbine technician certification in the U.S. to date.
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has recently launched its Wind Turbine Technician I (WTT-I) Certification Program, the first of its kind in the United States (U.S.). This certification program is ideal for individuals new to the wind energy industry and who have completed foundational training courses in wind turbines and electrical safety. Individuals with experience working in the wind energy industry, a minimum of 6 months, can also avail themselves of the benefits of this certification program, which enhances their skills and understanding of work performed on wind turbines.
“The WTT-I program will help professionals build successful careers in the wind energy sector and support their ability to service, inspect, and maintain wind turbines safely with industry-recognized credentials,” said Dan Pickel, Director of Certification and Accreditation at NFPA. “As demand for these workers increases, candidates who enhance their knowledge and skills through best-in-class certifications, such as the WTT-I certificate, will more easily stand out to potential employers. This can help increase an employee’s credibility, marketability, and earning potential.”
After completing the WTT-I certification program, industry professionals can showcase proficiency in critical features and components of wind turbines. They will be able to demonstrate their knowledge and expertise in installing, inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, reading and interpreting blueprints, and documenting service performed on wind turbines.
Benefits of WTT–I Certification
- Explain, Describe, And Identify Key Features And Components Of Wind Turbines
- Inspection And Maintenance Of Wind Turbines
- Servicing And Troubleshooting Of Turbine Components
- Basic Energy Testing And Isolation Procedures On Systems
- Conducting Lockout/Tagout Procedures On Equipment
- Documentation Of Service Performed On Wind Turbines
WTT–I Exam
The Wind Turbine Technician – I (WTT –I) examination is a closed-book test conducted in 120 minutes (2 hours). The test consists of 60 multiple-choice questions, which you must complete in the given timeframe.
